Budget 2025: MACC budget increased to RM360 Million for enhanced corruption fight

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) has been allocated RM360 million in the Budget 2025 to strengthen its anti-corruption efforts, from RM338 million last year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government has also introduced the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), along with plans to implement the Freedom of Information Act and the Government Procurement Act, aimed at improving transparency and governance.

“The government grants full autonomy to SPRM to investigate and take firm action to bring corrupt offenders to justice,” he said when tabling the Budget 2025 today.

Additionally, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister said the Auditor General’s powers have been expanded to audit public funds and companies receiving government guarantees. 

The National Audit Department’s budget has also been raised to RM200 million to support audits of nearly 2,000 entities.

Moreover, Anwar reinforced the government’s commitment to eradicating corruption.

“Corruption is a silent cancer that undermines the morale of the people and investor confidence. The future of the nation depends on our success in eradicating corruption,” he said.
